Green-Tailed Towhee

Description

The Green-Tailed Towhee has interesting markings that include a rufous crown, white and black mustache and olive green wings on a grey body, and of course, a green tail. They prefer areas of dense brush in the higher elevations. The Green-Tailed Towhee scratches on the ground in search of food like insects, seeds, and berries.

The Green-Tailed Towhee is a smaller Towhee, reaching a length of about 7-1/4 inches.

Field Notes

We have observed the Green-Tailed Towhee near the San Antonio Ski Hut and in the Table Mountain Campground in the higher elevations of the Angeles National Forest.
